First victims of heat waves, women and people with reduced autonomy are nevertheless a minority users of public space - other than utility and transportation -. Public space often becomes the missing piece of overcrowded private homes.

Following the work done on oasis courtyards in schools, we want to examine the inequality of access to public space through the lens of gender and climate resilience in an intersectional approach.

Starting in March 2024, we are launching a "faire place" action-research program with women's collectives in the neighborhood, with the ultimate goal of designing urban furniture/planning/programming as a prefiguration in public space the following year (2025).

In the spirit of "Oasis Courtyards", the idea is to co-design and co-create this equipment in the context of a participatory and learning process, with our architects and social designers. This participatory process allows everyone to appropriate and respect this device, and diversifies the uses and users of public space.
